Description

The Charge Nurse RN is responsible for supervising the day-to-day nursing activities of the facility. This supervision must be in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern the facility, and as directed by the Unit Manager, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times. In addition to assigning work to Nursing Assistants, as necessary, the Charge Nurse shall have the supervisory responsibility to ensure compliance by the Nursing Assistants with rules of conduct and other personnel policies. Essential Activities & Tasks Quality & Compliance Management •Ensures that Nursing Procedures is followed by nursing service personnel, and that it reflects the day to day nursing care procedures used by the facility. •Participates in the maintenance, and implementation of the facility's quality assurance program and monitoring tool for the Nursing Department. •Ensures the procedures for the administration, storage and control of medications and supplies are being followed by nursing personnel. •Assure that resident rooms, treatment areas, work areas and equipment are maintained in a clean, sanitary, and safe manner. People Management & Development •Fosters a positive work environment that attracts, retains and motivates top quality employees. •Interviews, selects, supervises and sets performance expectations for direct reports. •Coaches and counsels direct reports regarding the performance expectations of their position. Evaluates job performance of direct reports and provides development guidance to staff for improved performance, and growth, when requested. •Participates in the planning, conducting, scheduling, etc. of in-service training programs, on-the-job training, and orientation programs for all staff. •Defines and promotes expectations so all staff understand and demonstrate excellence. Operations Management & Administration •Directs the day-to-day functions of the nursing activities in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the facility, including the making of work assignments to nursing assistants. •Assists in implementing methods for coordinating nursing services with other residents to ensure continuity of residents care. •Participates in various committee meetings within the facility. •Makes work assignments and meets with Nursing Assistants regularly to assist in identifying and correcting problem areas, and/or the improvement of care and services. •Provides direct nursing care as needed. •Consults with the resident's physicians in planning resident care, treatment, rehabilitation, etc. as needed. •Notify Residents attending physicians and families when there is a change in the resident's condition. •Authorize and monitor the use of restraints when necessary and in accordance with the facility policies and procedures. •Admit, transfer and discharge patients as necessary.

Job Requirements

Education

Must possess, as a minimum, a nursing degree from an accredited college or university or vocational school and hold a current, unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of Ohio.
Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
Experience

Must have at least one-year experience as a Supervisor in a hospital, long term care facility or other related health care facility preferred.
Previous experience in a nursing home or hospital as a charge nurse preferred.
