Material Handler

The Material Handler is responsible for moving inbound materials and staging these materials in the appropriate places within the fabrication area of the shop.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

• Puts away new metal and works with the receiving department as new material arrives to be stocked in the fabrication area.
• Responsible for stocking material kits when they arrive.
• Perform material kits and staging function for welder and machinist with a timely distribution of materials.
• Perform tasks to ensure accurate control of inventory by location.
• Moves product and inventory using a forklift and cranes.
• Report defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor.
• Execute and document quality inspections per standard operation procedures.
• Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follow prescribed safety regulations.
• Perform related duties as needed by management.

Education/Skills/Experience:

• High School Diploma or general education equivalent preferred.
• Experience in receiving/staging materials and crane/moving equipment is preferred.
• Ability to effectively communicate information and understand/follow verbal and written instructions.
• Possess basic mathematical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
• Good problem-solving skills.
• Ability to maintain the production pace of other team members.
• Exhibits familiarity with fabrication and paint procedures.
• Ability to utilize power tools and various equipment as needed to perform duties.
• Capable of operating forklifts and other equipment to move heavy shipments.
• Demonstrates awareness of proper fabrication and factory safety procedures.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to handle and feel, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee may be required to crouch. The employee may occasionally lift items as heavy as 75lbs. Specific vision abilities may include the employee’s ability to see near and far distances. Due to the open environment of the fabrication, must be able to work in various weather and temperature conditions to include extreme heat, humidity and cold. May also be regularly exposed to moving equipment, mechanical parts in motion, risk of shock, and other hazards associated with a manufacturing environment such as overhead cranes, welding, machining, painting etc.
