Description
This position will rotate between our Evendale, Auburn and Fountain Square locations.
- Position Summary
The Medical Assistant is key in promoting high quality, patient-centered care. The MA is responsible for assisting designated physician with procedures and treatments, general clinical duties, taking patient x-rays, assisting in patient management, proper documentation of medical transactions, maintaining medical equipment/ instruments, performing other diagnostic treatments, and assisting in the daily operations of the office. The MA is expected to maintain open, effective communication with the physicians, practice manager, co-workers, patients, and outside vendors/services.
- SKILLS
Knowledge of general clinical procedures, methods, applications and equipment necessary in the performance of job responsibilities. Knowledge of general office procedures, scheduling practices and the ability to apply these in scheduling patients and/or procedures; knowledge of patient rights and the ability to respond to each patient with empathy and respect, ability to communicate clearly and effectively both orally and in writing. Knowledge of policies, procedures, philosophies, rules and regulations governing the delivery of services to patients, and knowledge of managed care requirements in respect to pre authorization and referrals. Knowledge of correct spelling of medical terminology is also required.
- DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist the physician with procedures and treatments as required. Duties listed are listed below, but are not limited to:
Patient Care:
- Patient set-up in room
- Nail trims
- X-Rays (Taking and Developing)
- Taking vitals, blood pressure, sugar and temps.
- History and physicals
- Ultra sound
- Casting and form completion
- Splinting, uni-boots
- Orthotic casting, fiberglass casting
- Cast removal
- Drawing and administering injections
- Madajet preparation
- Consent forms
- Nail surgery assistance
- Bandage removal
- Stitch removal
- Surgery circulating
- Surgery assistance
- May accompany and assist physician(s) in the treatment and care of Extended Care facility patients at Extended Care facility. (Applicable to offices whose physicians treat Extended Care facility patients)
- Calling in prescriptions and refills (E-script on behalf of physician)
- Any other duties as needed and necessary as directed by physician
Routine Duties:
- Stocks rooms
- Changes solutions in rooms
- Makes nail packs, surgery packs, sterilizing packs
- Prepares surgery room for surgery
- Waste management
- Auto clave testing
- Cleans X-ray developer
- Maintains back office supplies
- Telephone assistance overflow when needed (Receptionist duties when needed)
- Helps in scheduling appointments when needed and necessary
- Other duties as may be assigned or directed by physician
II. JOB EVALUATION FACTORS
- Educational and Certification/license Requirements:
No license required but may be graduate of LPN, or MA program with current licensure or certification as required in the state of Ohio. Current certification in CPR.
- Experience
Minimum of one-year experience in podiatry medical office setting is preferred.
- Attitude towards Supervision
Ability to accept authority and direction of practice manager and/or physician
- Cooperation
Willingness and initiative to take on added or extra responsibilities and prioritize job duties for effective, efficient operations
- Teamwork
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and work with them as a team member in order to maximize the effectiveness of the office.
- Professional Behavior
Ability to deal promptly, courteously and diplomatically with patients, maintain congenial disposition with others even under stressful situations; and adhere to dress code policy at all times.
- Attendance
Maintain attendance, arrive promptly at scheduled work time and remain until scheduled departure time.
