Job Title: Pool Manager

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt, Part Time                                Pay Rate: $14/hr.

Reports to: Aquatic Director                                             Revision Date: 10/26/22

                                                                                                                                

 

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Pool Manager will assist with lifeguarding, supervision of lifeguards, swim lessons, pool management, and weekend building management.  In the summer the Pool Manager will support lifeguards, Front Gate staff, Slide Aides and Concession staff at the Outdoor Pool.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Helps to cover all scheduled shifts and/or finds substitute coverage for 100% of scheduled lifeguard shifts in conjunction with the Aquatic Director.
  2. Communicates expectations and policy changes effectively. Holds all staff accountable.
  3. Coordinates the set up and take down of all outdoor pool equipment including front gate computer equipment and poolside chairs/tables/lounge chairs.
  4. Completes quick checks and drop tests for aquatics staff.
  5. Completes building audits as requested by Executive Director.
  6. Assists with swim lessons and private swim instruction as needed.
  7. Assists with pool maintenance, chemical checks, supplies inventory, and monthly checklist.
  8. Helps to maintain cleanliness of all pool areas including deck, pool bottom, slides, whirlpool, sauna, windows, etc. in conjunction with the Aquatic Director.
  9. Provides excellent member service by exceeding member expectations; greets and acknowledges all members to encourage aquatic participation.
  • Learns, utilizes, and can support front gate staff on SGA software.
  • Enforces all member codes of conduct, rules, and policies including (but not limited to) age restrictions, swim bands, dress codes, language, and proper use of YMCA equipment and facilities.
  • Knows and understands emergency procedures; is prepared to act on them if necessary.
  • Reports accidents, concerns, and equipment troubles to supervisor immediately with the appropriate paperwork.
  • Maintains current certifications including Basic Life Support/First Aid/Oxygen, Lifeguard, and Swim Instructor certifications.
  • Attends all required trainings, in-service meetings, and branch meetings as required.
  • Supports all branch and association-wide membership retention and engagement initiatives.
  • Maintains professionalism in accordance with the YMCA core values and culture.
  • Pool Manager is expected to work 15 hrs/wk September through April, 20 hrs/wk in the months of May and August, and 30 hrs/wk in June and July. Pool Manager is expected to work Saturdays and Sundays.
  • Pool Manager will not engage in the use of cell phones or smart watches or any personal electronics while serving on deck.
  • Pool Manager will serve as weekend building manager assisting as needed at the front desk, giving membership tours, and setting up games such as Pickleball and Ping Pong.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be 18 years of age.
  2. Must have current BLS, First Aid and Oxygen certifications, or willing to obtain.
  3. YMCA Lifeguard or equivalent certification required.
  4. Y-Basic Swim Lessons v6 certification preferred or willing to obtain.
  5. Knowledge of computer software and ability to utilize Sling and GroupMe for communication and scheduling.
  6. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious relationships with staff, volunteers, members, and participants is essential.
  7. Must promote the YMCA mission and apply core values, including customer service, meeting quality standards for service, and a maintaining safe environment for the enjoyment of all.
  8. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  9. Physical ability to respond to children quickly in emergency: regular kneeling, bending, or sitting.
  10. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
  11. Must be able to handle multiple tasks, work heavily with families and children.
