Description
Job Purpose
The Industrial Painter performs a variety of functions under the finishing area, which includes: painting using different types of paint, clear coating, and packing & shipping industrial equipment. This position works to assure accuracy and quality control and promotes the flow of materials necessary to production.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Work safely around large parts
- Maintain housekeeping of work area
- Operate various types of spray-painting equipment, applying protective coatings and paints to Minster manufactured machinery and parts
- Operate equipment to clean, wash, strip, sand, remove corrosion, fill dents, or otherwise prepare fabricated steel items for application of paint and or other protective coatings
- Clean and maintain painting and coating, ventilation, compressed air, and personal protective equipment
- Conducts quality inspections to identify and correct product defects
- Visually inspects product at workstation to determine work required.
- Determines required finish operation based upon production order and ticket.
- Performs finish process that meet quality standards of operation. Standards of operation are located on site for operators review and training.
- Transfers product to and from workstation in a safe manner.
- Maintain inventory of paint, thinners, and hardware used in assembly
- Observes and follows safety precautions, rules and regulations.
- Packing & Shipping: assembling and performing the final quality inspection of equipment, then packing and shipping them.
- Responsible for maintaining work area and all equipment required to complete job.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED Preferred
- 2+ years of previous finishing experience preferred
- Forklift Operation
- Respiratory Fit Test Completion
- Basic verbal and written communication skills (including analysis, interpretation, & reasoning).
- Basic understanding and application of mathematical concepts.
- Ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization, as well as internal and external clients.
- Ability to work well autonomously and within a team in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment.
- Ability to work with and influence peers and management.
- Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting.
- Possess a mechanical aptitude; ability to use a large variety of hand tools and basic knowledge of power tools, forklifts, and cutting torch.
- Ability to work overtime as necessary.
Working Conditions
Mostly standing work. Continuously lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds. Frequently lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. Occasionally lifting and carrying up to 100 lbs. (Lifting more than 50 lbs overhead must be performed by using mechanical aids; if mechanical aids are not available, the lift will be performed by two employees in a team lift.) Detailed work with hands; fine work and simple grasping. Position may involve bending, squatting, climbing, reaching, and kneeling with occasional crawling and twisting. Periodic travel may be involved. As needed, will work at a desk and a computer screen for extended periods of time. Must be able to manually enter data to the computer system and understand the screen and images that appear.
