Job Purposes:
Maintenance Technician will work under minimal supervision to perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance (preventative and predictive), inspections, repairs, and troubleshooting of the plant machinery and facilities. Work to be conducted on mechanical, electrical, plumbing systems, pneumatics, hydraulics, electronics, switchgear, motors, and other electrical equipment. All work to be done with an emphasis on safety of people, environment, and the equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.
  • Investigates issues resulting from equipment failures, and identify and eliminate the root cause.
  • Assures the safe execution of all maintenance activities and helps ensure the safety of each associate by taking an active role in the safety programs the company has in place.
  • Planning and scheduling their work and help others with planning as well.
  • Maintain the general plant equipment and machinery, making sure it is clean, in proper working order and performing preventative maintenance on schedule. Conduct facility maintenance and repairs as needed.
  • Responsible for assigned special projects in the facility, including fabrication of items to help the operation.
  • Assist the department foreman and the machine operators during scheduled and unscheduled maintenance activities, equipment breakdowns, and trouble shooting. This includes, but is not limited to, directing activities, physically assisting with work, sharing knowledge, and performing activity follow-up.
  • Coordinate with the department managers any maintenance activities that may require special assistance (e.g., parts procurement, arranging for outside contractors, equipment rental, etc.).
  • Assist department managers in maintaining parts and supplies stores. This would include researching, ordering and obtaining needed parts and supplies.
  • Develop new ideas aimed at improving safety, production, quality, and lowering costs.
  • Assist the department manager or immediate supervisor in any specific duties he/she assigns.
  • Provides quality service to both internal and external customers at all times.
  • Responsible to take on portions of the DynaPac Rebuild to include rebuilding the feed box, main shafts, and other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Director.
  • Maintains and repairs overhead cranes.
Education, Knowledge, and Skills
  • High school diploma or equivalent. Tech school certification, journeyman completion in the trades (electrical trade) preferred
  • Understands electrical systems, mechanical systems, fluid power (hydraulic and pneumatic) systems, industrial electronics, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and electrical control systems.
  • Minimum 3 - 5 years of industrial maintenance experience required. Journeyman level electrician preferred. Experience with AC/DC drives and motors, digital and analogue electronics, control circuits, computers/PLC and test instruments, power supplies, power distribution, 480V systems, and NFPA70E training preferred
  • Ability to understand technical terminology common to various trades along with the ability to read, analyze, and interpret drawings, schematics, diagrams, prints, publications, and locally generated instructions.
  • Ability to communicate, both verbally and in writing, using the English language. Bilingual candidates preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and replace a 480 3-phase motor.
  • Ability to specify and replace conveyor drive motors.
  • Ability to troubleshoot, repair and replace emergency stop equipment for conveyors.
  • Ability to run, measure, cut, thread, and bend conduit.
  • Ability to pull wire to electrical devices based on schematics.
  • Ability to replace rollers, replace conveyor drive belts and laced product belts, and maintain, and repair conveyors.
  • Abilit to repair hydraulic leaks on pumps and lines.
  • Ability to replace hydraulic pumps, control parts including flow, direction, and associated components.
  • Ability to troubleshoot hydraulic systems using schematics and ladder logic.
  • Understanding of pneumatic control systems and schematics preferred.
  • Welding Plate Certification (SMAW, GMAW, FCA, GTAW certifications preferred).
  • Rigger Certification 1 Certification preferred (must meet OSHA and AMSE Standard).
  • Understanding of the HVAC cycle and system.
  • Ability to problem solve using the “5 Why's” and “Fishbone” process.
  • Ability to lead others.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office.
  • Basic knowledge of inventory management to include signing out parts in a storeroom and purchasing parts.
  • Able to plan and schedule work.
Work Environment:
Exposure to noise, fumes, and dust, while in manufacturing facilities.
Physical Demands:
This position frequently lifts heavy objects and/or up to 50 lbs., and occasionally up to 80 lbs., walks and stands for long periods of time and performs strenuous physical labor. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls or carries objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue; and effectively lifts and carries heavy loads. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand and arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination. It also requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs. The employee must have excellent stamina.
