Description
Function: Programming CMM to inspect a greater variety of parts and products to ensure conformance with customer requirements. Inspect products using fixed or variable measuring instruments. Verify specified dimensions on product or material using advanced inspection equipment.
Position Requirements: Experience in programming and operating DCC touch-trigger CMMs using HT-Basic, FLB, and/or MeasureMax
- Experience with interpretation of drawings and programming of CMMs for complete dimensional inspection of airfoil parts such as blades, vanes, and blisks/IBR’s
- Experience with completing dimensional inspection requirements to satisfy First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) for aerospace hardware.
- Advanced proficiency in use of small inspection tools such as Micrometers, Calipers, and Optical comparators for inspection of incoming raw material, in-process and finish machined parts
- Desirable to have experience with analog scanning probe CMM programming using 3D CAD-based CMM programming software, such as IQ CMM-Manager, PC-DMIS CAD++, Sitius, or Calypso.
Other duties and Responsibilities:
- Perform manual CMM inspections using extensive knowledge of coordinate system, manual measurement functions and ability to program CMM for Direct Computer Control (DCC) program use.
- Apply problem-solving skills to identify and solve in-process measurement problems independently or with others. Develop programs using X,Y,Z and vector component data generated on CAD system for problem resolution.
- Calibrate CMM equipment, minor troubleshooting and repairs. Coordinate equipment, special gauge and/or tooling repair, and outside service. Develop procedures for special gauge calibration, tooling and cathode qualification.
- Inspect incoming material and finished goods using basic and advanced precision measuring
- instruments (micrometers, calipers, radius gauges, height stands, profilometers, manual optical comparator, microscope, CMM, Smartscope, digital comparator, etc.) verifying agreement of blueprint specifications and part dimensions.
- Assure sign offs on process routers, and prepare inspection and deviation reports as required.
- Assure corrective or preventive actions are implemented by dates specified on deviation reports.
- Inspect set-ups through 1st piece inspection and in-process inspection of production runs
- Maintain an accurate daily log of parts processed and operations and procedures performed.
- Perform basic manual plate layout
- Train new inspectors. Continuously work with less skilled employees to optimize their job performance
- Perform preventive and routine maintenance to maintain machine performance.
- Perform daily housekeeping tasks to provide a safe, clean and orderly workplace.
- Perform internal quality system audits concerning software quality assurance systems. Work with personnel out of the department to modify Software Quality Assurance procedures/system as necessary.
Job Requirements
Education and/or Experience Requirements:
Requires high school, general education degree (GED) or vocational school graduate with courses in mechanical drawing and shop mathematics or equivalent. Minimum four years prior experience with programming CMM using industry standard software. Ten years prior experience with precision measuring equipment and reading plots and/or blueprints preferred. Ability to interpret basic Geometric, Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T). Close attention and care is required to prevent damage to parts and machine tools. Must obtain forklift license if designated to operate a forklift.
Physical Requirements:
Worker usually sits and works at table height, although they may prefer to work standing or bending. Worker regularly required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 60 pounds independently or up to 100 pounds with assistance. Repetitive actions include simple grasping, firm grasping and fine manipulation. Specific vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Required to wear hearing protection if noise equals or exceeds in an 8 hour time-weighted-average 85 decibels (dBA).
