MidPointe Library – Collection Development Selector, Youth - Full Time - Middletown, OH
 
Do you like to collaborate with others and guide the development of youth collections by using your broad knowledge of
youth literature to identify, gather, and analyze data to balance collection development needs and expectations of the
community and library?
Based in Middletown, but traveling to other branch locations approximately 1-2 times a week, you’ll build carts of print, AV, E-book, and E-audiobook titles in various software platforms; evaluate collections by creating and using various reports and physically examining library shelves; create weeding reports; remove and delete item records; correct errors in the ILS item records; perform basic repairs to materials such as replacing spine labels, barcodes, RFID tags and glue broken spines. You’ll work with public services staff at all branches.

To be successful, you will need to:
  • Have a master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited institution is highly desired, or pursuing an MLS is required.
  • Have a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle record, continuous insurability on the library’s insurance, and able to drive library vehicles is required.
  • The ability to understand the appropriateness of collection material is needed.
  • Have an excellent understanding of a MARC record.
  • Have collection development experience.
  • Experience with Title Source 360, iPage, and Midwest Tape is highly desired; Sierra experience desired.
  • Experience with bibliographic, item, and order record structure is highly desired.
  • Have an extensive and broad knowledge of youth literature.
  • Have attention to detail, be able to prioritize workflow, meet weekly & monthly deadlines; and work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Able to problem solve, be organized, efficient, and able to manage frequent interruptions.
  • Have excellent computer skills including being proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, Sierra ILS, library databases, and the internet.
  • Evaluate youth collections system-wide using software & physically examining the shelves.
  • Learn and carry out the responsibilities of the assigned position.
  • Must have regular & predictable physical attendance and punctuality.
Physical Abilities Include:
-Must have sufficient clarity of speech and hearing which permits satisfactory communication with others.
-Must have manual dexterity sufficient to operate library equipment; perform general typing and keyboard operation; visual acuity to distinguish, produce, and view a wide variety of materials in both print and electronic formats.
-Must have the ability to move book crates that could weigh up to 75 pounds when full and move book carts that could weigh up to 200+ pounds when full.
 
Hours:
40 hours per week; Mon-Fri 7:30am-4pm (is flexible); evenings and weekends as needed.
 
Rate of Pay:
The pay range is $22.00-$35.00; the rate depends on job factors such as experience, job skills, education, languages spoken, and certifications.
