Description
Supervises all inmates visually and/or by closed circuit TV in all areas of the Jail for their well-being & the security of the facility; supervises trustees/JIP's in their work assignments; issues jail/bed clothing; provides commissary items; administers to all other needs of inmates as may be required.
Processes inmates in/out of the Clermont County Jail, maintaining all paperwork necessary to the process; verifies all court commitments, warrants to discharge & other orders of the court; fingerprints inmates; photographs all incoming inmates; searches inmates .
Communicates directly with officers of the court, parole officers, Clerk of Courts personnel, other law enforcement agencies, penal institutions concerning inmate-related matters. Coordinates inmate movement and members of the public inside and/or outside of Jail; arranges for medical/dental appointments, court appearances, professional evaluations and any other required transportation; arranges telephone calls & visitation for inmates.
Performs other related duties as assigned
Job Requirements
Must be 18 years of age; must be a high school graduate or possess a GED certificate; must have valid Driver's License; cannot have a disqualifying criminal or traffic record. Must satisfactorily complete an application process including: a written examination, physical fitness assessment, oral interview, voice stress exam, medical exam, background investigation.
Must successfully complete 136 hours of Correctional Officers Training; must be available to work alternating shifts, weekends and holidays; must be able to perform simple arithmetic; complete routine forms utilizing acceptable grammar and spelling; must maintain a satisfactory level of job-related physical fitness and dexterity; must acquire a basic understanding of federal and state laws and administrative regulations concerning jails and inmates; must learn, understand and comply with departmental and jail policies and procedures; must learn and be able to perform proper techniques of inmate control.
Must satisfactorily complete a six (6) month probationary period that may at the discretion of the Sheriff be extended to twelve (12) months.
