Diesel Mechanic Trainee

Job Responsibilities

As a Diesel Technician Trainee, you will get on the job training by making repairs and maintaining systems and parts associated with class 6, 7, & 8 diesel-powered tractors, dry van type trailers and propane powered forklift.   You will learn how to diagnoses failures and make repairs on mechanical, electrical, or other various systems on a vehicle.

 

Additional responsibilities:

May discuss the nature of the difficulty with the driver(s)

Moves, operates, lifts, stores, and uses specialized equipment, including personal and company hand and power tools, shop machines, and welders, and measuring devices to perform inspections, adjustments, repair or maintenance work

Uses hydraulic jacks or hoist to gain access to the underside of the unit and to aid in the removal or replacement of assemblies such as engines, transmissions, differentials, springs, etc.

Uses of electronic diagnostic tools and computer software to assist in the troubleshooting and repair of heavy duty truck engine, braking, electrical, and cooling and exhaust systems

Preferred Qualifications
Mechanical experience from a trade school or vocational school
Previous employment in a maintenance related field
Training in the use of PC's, diagnostic software and computerized tools for
Troubleshooting electronic controlled engine transmission and brake systems
Owns basic hand tools to repair class 6, 7, & 8 trucks with diesel engines
