Firefighter III (Paramedic)

Notice is hereby given that the City of Blue Ash, Ohio, will administer a written exam for the position of Firefighter III (Paramedic).  This exam will establish an eligibility list for future vacancies within the full-time Firefighter III (Paramedic) classification.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must currently possess State of Ohio Firefighter 2 Certification and State of Ohio Paramedic Certification. Applicants must be able to meet Blue Ash Fire Department physical agility test requirements.

APPLICATION DATES AND PROCEDURES: Applicants must: Apply through the City of Blue Ash website (www.BlueAsh.com) on or before Friday, May 18, 2018.

WRITTEN EXAMINATION: The date, time, and location of the Written Examination are to be announced. Applicants will be contacted by email once a date has been selected.   Only those applicants meeting the application deadline and meet the minimum qualifications will be allowed entrance to the exam.

EXAMINATION SCORES: The process for Firefighter III (Paramedic) will be comprised of three parts. The first part will be a written examination and will constitute 40% of the total score. Only the 50 applicants receiving the highest test scores and scoring 70% or above on the written part of the examination will be allowed to proceed to the next step of the process, that being a skills/agility assessment which will be scored pass/fail. All phases of the skills/agility assessment must be successfully passed in order to receive a passing score on the total agility test.

EMPLOYMENT OFFER: Subsequent to an offer of employment, and prior to beginning employment, candidates will be subject to a background investigation, polygraph exam, fitness for duty psychological exam, and pre-employment pension physical with drug screening. Some preferred experience are: as a paramedic; as a firefighter; in code enforcement and fire prevention; equipment maintenance training or experience; record keeping experience or training; completion of a standard high school course or G.E.D. equivalent; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Applicants must currently possess State of Ohio Firefighter 2 Certification and State of Ohio Paramedic Certification; be a U.S. citizen; possess a valid driver license, have a high school diploma or G.E.D., and have no felony convictions. Candidates possessing an associate’s degree or higher are preferred. Applicants must be able to meet Blue Ash Fire Department physical agility test requirements.
