POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for the design, installation and ongoing operation of HVAC control systems.
DUTIES:      
  •  Inspects, diagnoses and repairs control systems.
  • Ability to performs all general HVAC Technician duties.
  • Installs lighting and HVAC control wiring and related equipment components.
  • Repairs, maintains and installs related HVAC mechanical equipment, Inspects and calibrates temperature sensors, valve and damper actuators and other related equipment.
  • Maintains HVAC server and client PCs on local area network.
  • Serves as liaison with vendors/contractors to obtain repair/replacement estimates. Initiates orders for materials and supplies.
  • Receives and resolves customer complaints about heating and cooling conditions.
  • Required “off hours” to carry a cell phone and laptop computer to troubleshoot and respond to after-hours call-ins on a scheduled rotation.
  • Acts as a prime contact for vendors used by the department in obtaining repair/replacement estimates and oversees related work.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Regular and reliable attendance is required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Universal CFC certificate a plus.
  • Five (5) years experience in the HVAC service field.
  • Proficiency with computers and energy management control systems (Honeywell, Control Systems International and Johnson Controls preferred) and their interface with HVAC systems.
  • Must possess valid driver’s license and possess/maintain driving record acceptable to the Library’s insurance carrier.
  • Knowledge of Controls Systems International (CSI) Controls Software Applications, Johnson Control Systems Software, Barber Colman Controls Systems Software and Trane Tracer Controls Systems Software
  • Knowledge and understanding of interfacing computer controls applications with lighting and HVAC mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to specify design/performance requirements for HVAC controls/lighting system installations.
  • Ability to write and program digital HVAC control systems.
  • Knowledge of sources/suppliers of a wide array of HVAC/Controls and related equipment.
  • Ability to trouble shoot, diagnose, and repair control systems and related HVAC equipment.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work in a changing environment.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • Ability to lift materials weighing up to 50 pounds for extended periods of time
  • Ability to push/pull fully loaded materials hauling equipment, such as two wheelers, pallet jacks and hand trucks, and to operate a mechanical pallet mover.
  • Ability to setup, climb and work from stepladders up to 10 feet high; and set up, climb, and work from extension ladders up to forty (40) feet in height, and set up, climb and work from scaffolding up to 28 feet in height.
  • Ability to handle and work proficiently with manual and powered tools and equipment, such as common hand tools, carpentry shop tools, circular saw, drill, chain saw, vacuums, plumbing floor machines.

  • Ability to comply with manufacturer’s use instructions for cleaning agents and equipment operation.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.

  • Must have the ability to safely, frequently and independently move and handle a minimum of 50 pounds to a minimum height of 2 feet and move the weight a minimum of 5 feet.
