Description
The Back Office LPN/RN position maintains a smooth flow within the back office, working with her assigned provider to keep his or her schedule running smoothly. The Back Office LPN/RN position reports directly to the assigned provider for the day, all providers, and the Triage Nurse.
Duties and responsibilities
Direct Patient Care
• Set up rooms and patient care areas, ensuring that supplies are stocked
• Room patients:
o Obtain complete history, chief complaint, and other pertinent information
o Take vitals
o Perform necessary screenings
o Check and update allergy information
• Prepare patients for examinations and procedures
• Collect and process laboratory specimens
• Administer vaccines
• Administer allergy shots and antibiotic injections
• Clean patient rooms and care areas between patients and as needed
• Assist Providers as needed
• Clean up at end of day, stock rooms
Assisting the Front
• Greet patients
• Check patients in
• Answer phones, direct calls, schedule patients
• Assist with faxes and filing
• Complete forms
Care Coordination
• Perform the following day’s “Huddle Checks” for all prescheduled appointments
• Huddle with assigned provider on current day’s schedule and activities
Miscellaneous
• Participate in appropriate Quality Improvement activities
• Work on individual extra projects
• Put received orders away
• Maintain in stock samples, vaccines, and medications
Training
• Upon hire and annually thereafter, participate in training for:
o Care Coordination
o Patient Self Management
o Population Management
o Health Literacy
o OSHA and Blood borne Pathogens
o HIPAA
o COLA and other lab related activities
o Fire extinguisher usage
Qualifications
The Back Office LPN/RN Position requires someone experienced in the overall working of the practice and a clear sense of work flow needs.
Qualifications include:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Computing skills to use the current versions of scheduling and medical software
• Ability to work independently and carry out assignments to completion within the parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard acceptable practices
• LPN/RN degree and active license
• Be a team player
Physical requirements
The Back Office LPN/RN position requires someone who can work an entire 8 hour shift on their feet. They must be able to talk, listen, and speak clearly to patients and providers. They must be able to lift 50 lbs and assist with special needs or uncooperative patients.
