Description
Reports to: Maintenance Supervisor
Travel: Occasionally
II. Purpose of Position
Responsible for controlling the manufacturing line equipment to produce food products or baked goods including set up, operation or tending implements, appliances, and packaging equipment
III. Position Responsibilities and Job Functions
- Studies specifications, determines setup procedures and selects machine dies and parts. Determines mixing sequences, based on knowledge of temperature effects and of the solubility of specific ingredients.
- Sets up and operates equipment that mixes or blends ingredients used in the manufacturing of food products.
- Fills processing or cooking containers, such as kettles, rotating cookers, pressure cookers, or vats, with ingredients, by opening valves, by starting pumps or injectors, or by hand. Loads machine hopper with mixed materials, using auger, or stuffs rolls of plastic dough into machine cylinders.
- Starts machine and sets controls to regulate vacuum, air pressure, sizing rings, and temperature, and synchronizes speed of extrusion. Selects nozzles, spacers, and wire guides, according to diameter and length of rod. Adjusts controls to draw or press metal into specified shape and diameter.
- Manipulates products, by hand or using machines, in order to separate, spread, knead, spin, cast, cut, pull, or roll products. May examine, feel, and taste product samples during production in order to evaluate quality, color, texture, flavor, and bouquet, and document the results.
- Follows recipes to produce food products of specified flavor, texture, clarity, bouquet, and/or color.
- Observes and listens to equipment in order to detect possible malfunctions, such as leaks or plugging, and report malfunctions or undesirable tastes to supervisors. Operates switches and knobs to start, adjust, and regulate equipment.
- Identifies the nature of any problems. Works to resolve problems and consistently improve productivity.
- Maintains a favorable working relationship with others to promote a cooperative and harmonious working environment.
- Responsible for suggesting methods to improve area operations, processes, efficiency, and service to both internal and external customers. Support of the I-85 process.
- Support the I-85 process.
- Will follow established programs, policies and practices to produce safe quality foods that meet regulatory and company requirements.
- Will support the development, implementation, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of the SQF 2000 Systems.
- Will be accountable to the Kroger Manufacturing Food Safety and Quality Principles.
- Conducts required Quality Observations.
- Keeps work areas clean, safe, and organized at all times while working.
- Participate in all plant iniatives.
- Work in a safe manner following all department and plant safety rules.
- Skill Required
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of production and processing inputs, outputs, raw materials, waste, quality control, costs, and techniques for maximizing the manufacture and distribution of goods
- Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, use, benefits, repair, and maintenance.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small groups situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Position Relationship
To work closely with the Plant Engineer, Operations Manager, Engineering Staff, Maintenance Staff.
