Description
This position is Part-Time, working 15-20 hours per week. The schedule is mainly day time hours, however, attendance is required at the Civil Service Commission meetings that are scheduled for 6 pm on the second Thursday of each month. Attendance at all Civil Service examinations is also mandatory. Examinations are held in the evening and occasionally on Saturday morning.
Under general supervision of the Human Resources Manager, performs a variety of administrative clerical responsibilities for the City of Fairfield Civil Service Commission. Examples of Duties
- Serves as Secretary to the Civil Service Commission, scheduling and advertising meetings, providing the Commissioners with an agenda and reports for meetings and taking minutes at meetings.
- Serves as the first point of contact for the Civil Service Commission with current classified employees of the City as well as candidates for employment and those seeking employment in a classified position with the City.
- Schedules and administers Civil Service Exams for classified positions, analyzing and calculating scores, and rendering the Eligibility List.
- Provides competent customer service, in person or through telephone or computer messaging, responding to questions, providing information and directions.
- Tracks and reports information for Annual Report to the Ohio Civil Service Commission.
- Monitors changes to Ohio Civil Service rules and regulations and informs Commission. Keeps City of Fairfield Civil Service rules and regulations updated as approved by the Commission.
- May provide testing services for the Building and Zoning Division, as necessary.
Typical Qualifications
Excellent customer service skills and oral/written communication skills; computer literacy with word processing and spreadsheet skills and experience; high school diploma or GED; knowledge of proper English grammar, spelling, and punctuation; knowledge of contemporary office procedures; appropriate discretion to handle confidential information. Valid driver's license.
