Job Description Summary:
Job ID: 5977 - FT - AFSCME (hourly)
Assists in maintaining university facilities by performing preventative and routine maintenance on boilers, generators, equipment auxiliaries, and other complex mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment, as well as steam and hydronic water distribution systems.
Work rotating 8 hour shifts, around the clock, seven days a week and holidays as assigned.

Job Requirements

Duties/Physical Demands:
1. Monitors campus electrical systems.
2. Perform predictive, preventative and routine maintenance on boilers, chillers, generators, engines, fuel trains and auxiliaries.
3. Monitor engines and generator alarms.
4. Install new and replacement equipment.
5. Troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment to determine necessary repairs and the required parts, materials, and supplies.
6. Provide supervision and guidance to Utilities Systems Maintenance Assistants as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:
Knowledge of unit operations; mechanical skills; knowledge of computer and unit applications; supervisory skills.

Working Conditions:
Physical effort usually requires considerable walking and standing with some lifting of materials weighing 25 to 50 pounds. Somewhat disagreeable working conditions. Some exposure to several unpleasant elements which are particularly disagreeable.

Minimum Qualifications:
Requires nine months of technical training beyond high school and three years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Requires valid driver's license.
