JOB SUMMARY: 

 The Welder position encompasses Production Welding and Quality responsibilities.  Duties include analyzing blueprints, welding jobs, maintaining production standards and producing consistently accurate work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs production welding following The Metalworking Groups standardized work processes and quality procedures.
  • Performs visual quality checks and takes appropriate action to correct defects.
  • Provides feedback to supervisor on problems with the welding process.
  • Correctly welds pieces of metal together.
  • Prepares materials for welding, cuts, grinds and cleans metal.
  • Follows standardized work processes.
  • Produces work daily that is consistently accurate.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to frequently stand, sit, twist and use their hands, fingers and wrists to grip, twist and bend to operate controls.  The employee will occasionally will be required to walk, stoop, pull objects, kneel and climb stairs.  The employee will be required to occasionally reach high and low and lift items weighing 35 to 75 lbs.  Gross and fine motor skills required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The employee in this role will be working indoors, in an industrial manufacturing environment.  The employee will regularly be exposed to noise levels requiring hearing protection, moving equipment and mechanical parts. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience:

  1. 1-2 years of experience in welding
  2. Ability to read and understand blueprints, including welding diagrams and symbols
  3. Ability to use hand tools.
  4. Incumbents are required to have an understanding of fabrication processes.
  5. Licensures and Certifications: Have completed a four- or five-year tool and die making apprenticeship program or have a combination of over five years' work experience and some high school, college or industry courses in tool and die making. Journey-level certification would be desirable.
  6. Education: High School diploma or equivalent
