Description
Accountability Objectives
The Production Engineering Intern is responsible for supporting the daily activities of the Engineering department along with supporting production requirements. Hands on Tooling, Design, Process Improvement, and implementation of counter measures to prevent defects. Assist Program Launch team in conducting new tool tryouts and other activities as scheduled. Recommend and implement kaizen improvements to manufacturing processes and methods. This role is for 12-18 months as the Team Member learns and develop skills.
Principal Responsibilities and Authority
- Improve manufacturing processes and methods for cost-reduction, quality improvement, and efficiency
- Identification and resolution of mass production tooling issues
- Develop, promote, and teach TPS/TPM concepts to manufacturing leadership and associates
- Development of project schedule and tracking of progress
- New die trial and stamping process development
- Technical Troubleshooting of Metal Stamping Dies and Production Equipment Related Issues
- Perform time studies and analyze data to improve stamping and welding line efficiencies
- Participate in root cause analysis and counter measure procedures
- Understand Kanban flow and its effect on the flow of materials
- Conduct special assignments and projects delegated by Assist Mgr / Manager or Top Management
- Prepare PPAP documentation as needed
- Assist in new product launch as required
- Other duties as assigned

Reports to and accountable to the Engineering Manager/ Asst. Manager
Internal contacts: Sales and department leaders
External contacts: Outside vendors and customers

- Flexibility in tasks – ability to stop one task and complete another without hesitation.
- Willingness to work overtime and weekends as needed.
Experience, Education, and Skill Requirements
Proficiency with various computer applications including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Access)
Must be a self-starter
Requires experience with general office equipment (copier, fax, scanner, etc.)
Ability to adapt to unplanned activities
Willingness to travel as necessary (less than 10%)
Willingness to work overtime as needed
Physical Requirements
Must be able to type and use computer sometimes 100% of the day
Ability to stand, walk, stoop, and bend over up to 100% of the day
Lift/carry up to 60 lbs.
Working Conditions
Work indoors, in a manufacturing environment that is air conditioned in the Summer, and heated in the Winter
As well as in a standard office environment
Safety glasses, steel toe shoes, and hearing protection are required at all times while on manufacturing floor
Exposed to heat at times during summer months, and cold at times during the winter months
Upper noise levels requiring hearing protection on plant floor
