Job Title: Quote Specialist
Department: Sales/Engineering
Location: The Sheffer Corporation / Cincinnati, Ohio
Reports To: Engineering Manager
Position Summary:
The Quote Specialist is responsible for reviewing customer requests, developing accurate and timely quotations, and supporting the sales and engineering teams by generating Bills of Material (BOM), part drawings, and determining material specifications for custom cylinder designs. This position requires strong attention to detail, technical communication skills, and the ability to collaborate across departments in a fast-paced, manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review customer specifications, drawings, and RFQs to prepare accurate quotes.
- Generate Bills of Material (BOM) and necessary part drawings for standard and special cylinder designs.
- Evaluate the feasibility of custom requests and consult with engineering, manufacturing, or purchasing as needed.
- Determine special materials and components required for custom applications.
- Communicate with vendors to obtain pricing and lead times.
- Collaborate with customers to understand technical requirements and ensure proposed designs meet their needs.
- Ensure all quotations are technically accurate, cost-effective, and align with company capabilities and profit targets.
- Maintain and update the Quotes Log Database.
- Keep complete and accurate records of customer inquiries, quotes, and revisions.
- Maintain updated product and pricing references.
- Conduct research as needed to respond to customer questions.
- Assist with special projects as assigned by the Sheffer Management Team.
- All other duties assigned by supervisor/manager.
Required Skills and Competencies:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a clear “sense of urgency” and professionalism.
- Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings and technical documents.
- Effective at organizing workloads, managing priorities, and meeting multiple deadlines.
- Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Demonstrates the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Solid mechanical aptitude and emotional intelligence to understand, communicate and respond to customers’ quote needs and timelines efficiently.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in a custom manufacturing setting. Machining knowledge a plus.
Familiarity with CAD software to evaluate customer models and drawings
